5. Draft¶
- Type: Offline (in-person), snake format
- Date: Not fixed; the date and location are selected each year with the goal of accommodating the most in-person attendance. Typically falls within a few weeks of the start of the season, usually mid-to-late August (2025 draft: Sat, Aug 30, 6:15 PM MDT)
- Draft Order: Determined by the Many Mile (see Section 10)
- Draft Pick Trading: Not allowed
- Post-Draft Undrafted Players: Free agents (no automatic waivers)
Draft Penalties¶
- Duplicate Pick: If a manager announces a player who has already been drafted by another team, that manager must shotgun a beer before the draft proceeds. League-approved substitutions (e.g., hot dog, soda) are permitted on the same terms as the Many Mile.
6. Waivers and Free Agency¶
- Waiver Type: FAAB (Free Agent Acquisition Budget) with continual rolling list as tiebreaker
- FAAB Budget: $100 per team for the season
- Waiver Run: Tuesday game-time
- Waiver Period: 2 days
- Max Acquisitions per Week: No maximum
- Max Acquisitions per Season: No maximum
- Injured Players from Waivers/FA: Cannot be added directly to the IR slot; must be rostered to an active slot first.
7. Trades¶
- Trade Review: Commissioner review
- Trade Reject Window: 7 days from acceptance
- Max Trades per Season: No maximum
- Trade Deadline: Sunday of Week 11 (November 22, 2025 for the 2025 season)
- Draft Pick Trades: Not allowed. Draft picks (current-year or future-year) may not be traded.
- Collusion: The commissioner may reverse any trade believed in good faith to constitute collusion. The commissioner will not unilaterally reverse trades that are merely lopsided; veto authority is reserved for collusion or clear violations of league integrity.
8. Regular Season¶
- Length: 14 weeks (Weeks 1–14)
- Standings Tiebreaker (Playoff Seeding): Best regular-season head-to-head record vs. tied opponent(s).
- Median score, second opponents, and divisions are not used.
9. Championship Playoffs¶
- Teams: Top 6 by regular-season standings
- Weeks: 15, 16, and 17
- Reseeding: None
- Byes: Seeds 1 and 2
Bracket¶
- Week 15 (Quarterfinals): Seeds 1 and 2 bye; 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5
- Week 16 (Semifinals): 1 vs winner of (4 vs 5); 2 vs winner of (3 vs 6)
- Week 17 (Championship + 3rd-Place Game): Semifinal winners play for 1st/2nd; semifinal losers play for 3rd/4th.
Eliminated teams are not locked; managers are expected to set lineups in good faith for the duration of the season.
Champion's Honors¶
- Trophy: The league champion is awarded the Warren Wood Memorial Trophy (so named despite Warren still being very much alive), a wooden champions plaque (adopted August 28, 2026, replacing the prior metal plaque). The trophy stays with the reigning champion for the duration of the year and is returned to the league at the following season's draft for presentation to the new champion.
- Champion's Speech: The reigning champion delivers a speech at the next season's draft prior to the start of picks.
10. Loser's Bracket and the Many Mile¶
The bottom 6 regular-season teams enter a reverse-playoff loser's bracket. Losing advances; the manager who loses the Week 17 final is crowned the Many Mile Champion.
Loser's Bracket¶
- Week 15: Seeds 11 and 12 bye; 7 vs 10, 8 vs 9. Losers advance.
- Week 16 (Loser's Semis): 12 vs loser of (8 vs 9); 11 vs loser of (7 vs 10). Losers advance.
- Week 17 (Loser's Final): Loser of this matchup is the Many Mile Champion.
The Many Mile Race¶
The Many Mile is held the day before the next season's draft and is named after league member Aaron Many.
- Format: A Beer Mile — four quarter-mile laps, with one full beer consumed before the start of each lap.
- Substitutions: Beers may be substituted with a league-approved alternative (e.g., hot dog, soda) for managers who do not drink. Substitutions must be agreed upon by the league prior to race day.
- The Race: The Many Mile Champion runs the course as fast as possible. Time is measured from the start of the first beer to the finish of the fourth lap.
Draft Order via Guesses¶
Before the race, every manager (including the Many Mile Champion) submits a secret guess for the Champion's finish time. Guesses are collected and held by an agreed-upon neutral third party until after the race.
- Pick Selection: After the race, managers select their draft slot in order of guess accuracy, closest first. Any of the 12 draft slots may be chosen at each turn (i.e., the closest guess is not required to take the 1st overall pick — they may, for example, take the 12th slot for back-to-back picks).
- Tiebreaker: If two or more managers' guesses are equidistant from the actual time, the tied managers settle it via a mini-Many-Mile: shotgun one beer (or league-approved substitute) and run a 40-yard dash. First across the line picks first among the tied group.
11. Commissioner¶
- Current Commissioner: Marc Gordon
- Authority: Trade review, settings administration, dispute resolution, and any decisions not explicitly governed by these by-laws.
- Succession: If the commissioner steps down or is unable to serve, a new commissioner will be elected by simple majority vote of the league.
12. League Historian¶
- Current Historian: Taylor Firman
- Responsibilities: Maintaining the league website, keeping the by-laws current with league votes, and recording league history and records (champions, the Many Mile, head-to-head results, and the voting record).
- Authority: The Historian keeps the record; they do not rule on disputes or league settings. Corrections of fact may be made directly; substantive by-law changes still require a league vote per Section 13.
- Succession: If the Historian steps down or is unable to serve, a new Historian will be elected by simple majority vote of the league.
13. Rule Changes and Amendments¶
- Rule changes are discussed and voted on at the annual rules meeting, held the night before the draft.
- Amendment Threshold: Simple majority — 7 of 12 managers.
- Any manager may propose an amendment. Proposed changes should be circulated to the league at least 48 hours before the rules meeting when practical.
- Amendments take effect for the upcoming season unless otherwise specified.
- Re-proposal Cooldown: If an amendment fails, a substantially similar amendment may not be proposed again until two full seasons have passed.
14. Disputes¶
Disputes not resolved by these by-laws are decided by the commissioner. Any manager may appeal a commissioner ruling to a full league vote; a simple majority (7 of 12) overrides the ruling.
15. Voting Record¶
A record of amendments proposed at each annual rules meeting and how the league voted. Amendments pass with a simple majority (7 of 12 managers).
